AQR author Edith Perlman's collection Binocular Vision: New & Selected Stories announced as 2011 National Book Award finalist in fiction! This collection contain 4 stories originally published in Alaska Quarterly Review, including "The Non-Combatant," "To Reach This Season (Day of Awe)," "The Story" and "Home Schooling." A glowing review in the New York Times (January 14, 2011) singled out "Home Schooling" as one of the collection's "most luminous" stories.
AQR Author Melinda Moustakis will be recognized by the National Book Foundation as one of the five Under-35 award winners for 2011. Her first book, "Bear Down Bear North: Alaska Stories," won one of two 2010 Flannery O'Connor Awards for Short Fiction (the same work that garnered the National Book Foundation honor). It contains two stories first published in Alaska Quarterly Review: “Us Kids” and “Mr. Fur Face Needs a Girlfriend.” Her stories in AQR were nominated for a Pushcart Prizes.
